Washington DC ( District of Columbia) Yes, believe it or not, the nation's capitol harbors some fine ribbons to run. Starting Point: Arlington National Cemetery (Can't be the end, now, can it? Cross over the Memorial Bridge into DC, heading right towards the Lincoln Memorial and bear to the right, looping around and under the bridge. At this point you are right on the Potomac river, with lots of great scenery. Get ready to watch the road, cause it gets pretty cool! Bear right onto Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway. Under the edge of the Kennedy Center (rev it real good here!) and bear to the left to enter Rock Creek Parkway. Of course this road is subject to the usual rush hour and weekend "limitations", so the best time to give it a run is around 11am during the week. They are working on some of the bridges over this parkway, but the pavement is great, and you don't loose your lane. This road is pretty twisty for four lanes, making it real interesting as you pass slowpokes. Bear right at the fork, towards the Zoo (How appropriate!). Now you are into the woods, making it hard to believe you are in DC.There are only four intersections through here, but watch out for that blind right hairpin under a bridge, just before an intersection! The road forks several times, Military Rd and Beach Drive ( only open during the week) are worth checking out. This is a park area, so watch for deer. Really! If you double back and follow the Potomac, the parkway turns into Ohio Drive. Hang a left onto West Basin Drive, and check out the sights. On the weekends, there is always a bunch of sport bikes out here. Good place to find out about more great roads.
