| Coeur D'Alene | Coeur D'Alene | see notes | Bob Divine | Lake Coeur d'Alene road trip takes about 3 hours on very winding lake road. Best to travel east of Coeur d'Alene, ID on I-90 for about 11 miles, to Harrison, ID junction. Travel south on state road #97, "Scenic White Pine" road. You will be on outside lane, nearest Lake Coeur d'Alene. Difficult to reach high speeds due to severe twists, but if you're in casual mood the trip is relaxing. At St. Maries, ID you'll get onto state road #5, head west to Plummer, ID. At this junction you can head back north on highway 95, to Coeur d'Alene. Highway 95 is super on a sportbike! It actually goes the length of Idaho. In northern Idaho this road has some awesome hills, twists, river route. (But that's a whole other story). The Lake Coeur 'd Alene trip is best done in mid to late summer. Spring is problematic, as there is much gravel on road from winter sand trucks. Of course winter is better left to snowmobiles. |
| Post Falls | see notes | Bob Divine | A short local road near Post Falls, ID has about 60 hairpin turns packed within 7 miles. At Post Falls, ID, I-90 exit #5, head south on Spokane street, cross the Spokane River bridge, and in less than 1/2 mile the road splits. Take the west (right) branch of River View Drive, and hang on! Immediately the road climbs into hills, has the 60+ turns as it heads west to I-90 border of Idaho & Washington. The road is so short, and the freeway access is so quick, you can do this trip twice within a half hour. Adreniline rush is guaranteed, if you want to push it. As in all north Idaho roads, Spring time is tricky with gravel from wintertime sand trucks. | |
| Garden Valley | Lowman | Lowman
Highway 17 (a/k/a Banks-Lowman Rd) |
Ryan Smith | Length 23 miles. Turn off at banks, some pretty good twisties here but sometimes too much traffic. From Garden Valley to Lowman you can usually see many turns ahead along the side of the mountain. A few spots seem to often have rocks fall or the road is beat up pretty good from the rocks hitting there so often. The bad rough spots are not in corners yet but watch for rock. I usually take it easy on the way up keeping my eye out for rocks then get on it more on the way back down. |
