| Hwy 62 (at Illinois border--in IL this is Hwy 141) | Hwy 62 at Ohio border | Hwy (SR) 62 | Chuck Croucher | If you ever need to find a vacation spot, look to Southern Indiana. There are so many prime roads here. All well maintained and marked. Clean and scenic, with lots of hills and curves. There is no reason for us to go any where else for a few quick turns. I must mention the Indiana State Police. They are good at what they do. And one of the thing they do is patrol the highways. You can find one at the most inopportune time, and they use radar - stationary and moving. Some of the cars are still equipped with VASCAR. Be courteous to them and they might give you a warning only. Try to loose them and they go crazy like a cat - they will hunt you down mercilessly! One thing nice about them, they do not hide. They tend to park right out in the open. The only problem is, "out in the open" is usually right after the crest of a hill or at the end of a turn. They are not so pervasive that I hesitate to ride when and where I want, the way I want. Slow down in town and all is well. And if you are especially daring, you can get off the highways and onto the county roads. They are mostly smooth asphalt and also well maintained, but 50 MPH is a real challenge! |
| Sulphur | Tell City | SR 66 | Anonymous | Lots of turns, Evaluation changes and close to the river |
| Indianapolis (area) | US 44 & US 45 | Michael Mattix | Start out in Indianapolis; go west on I70 to the US39 exit (second exit outside Indy), then south for about 8 miles. Then take a boring 67 south to Martinsville and snake your way through the town to the east side and find US44 (you have to cross US37) for about 15 miles of sweeper curves (in most areas). You could stop there and back track for some short day fun. Or you could keep going by turning south when you meet up with US135 (too busy on weekends for me to go all the way to Nashville, IN) and turn onto US45 for about 15 more miles of curvy fun. They just repaved 45 in 2001. | |
