| Minden | Hwy 2 & Hwy 518 east of Homer | Hwy 518 | Bill Allison | This is one of the best roads in Lousiana. Gentle sweepers on the southern part until north of Hwy 146, then it gets really interesting for about 10 miles. |
| Bunkie | St. Landry | La 115 | Bruce Rozas | Many, many sweeping curves that follow the little bayou between the two towns - a joy to ride on a sport bike or a big tourer like the BMW KLT. |

There's lots of good sb roads in LA. Some found in the flats were
the only high ground is the meandering bayous and the mismatched
property lines causing sweeper and 90's one after another. This
would be the case with La 104 from Opelousas (US 190 to Mamou) great
scenery and the road surface is new. Side roads off 104 are 103 to
167, turn around and return to 104. Go to Mamou and go to Fred's
Lounge (party 9am Saturday morning only, Fr. music radio show,
nothing like it anywhere in the world), then take La 95 back south
east till you hit US 190 again. Go west a few miles and then turn
south, still on 95 until you shortly see 358 to your left (east)
take it to 35, go north until you hit US 190 once again. Your
starting point is to the east a few miles. Total miles,
approximately 100. Just take pictures at Freds, not pitchers. This
is just one of the many quick and easy rides from my house. It
features lots of local stores serving boudin, cracklin and other
substances of interest. I have a little website with some rides on
it. Most are geared for sightseeing but there are some where the
roads are interesting.

Wheelin' LA
The above route is mostly through rice fields where there are no driveways few "towns" and little, very little traffic. In the few inhabited spots along the way, caution should be taken as if you are caught, it will make their day, and it will get ugly. Steve |

From New Orleans: Take
the interstate to the first Pearl River exit (I-59). Go
left, cross over I-59 and continue to the Hwy 11, Hwy 41
intersection at the traffic light (about 1 1/2 miles). Cross
Hwy 11 on to Hwy 41 and continue north. Note: Hwy 41 through
Pearl River is 45 mph and patrolled. Continue north to the
Hwy 40 intersection at Bush, LA. There is a caution light
there and Hwy 41 makes a 90 right to continue toward Bogalusa.
Go through the caution light (straight) on to Hwy 40 and follow
about 1 1/2 miles to Hwy 26. Go left at the stop sign at Hwy
26 for about one mile. Look for the Hwy 40 sign on the
right. Turn right on Hwy 40. Go slowly past the school
and then ride. Follow Hwy 40 to the Hwy 25 intersection at
Folsom, LA. The road continues past Folsom but has way fewer
turns of interest. From Baton Rouge or Hammond go to Folsom first. Go east on Hwy 40 to Bush, LA. There are places to eat in Folsom if a break is needed. Not in Bush though. Get gas in Pearl River or Folsom. This is a country road in very good shape. The speed limit is 55, but watch for school busses in the afternoon. Pearl River to Folsom and back is about 75 miles. The road is on the state map available at tourist information stations. It is not usually on commercially offered maps. For an alternate route take Hwy 437 north from Hwy 40 to the Hwy 16 junction at Enon, LA instead of going on to Folsom. |
