Part 2 - KY section KY 62, 19, 165 (note: Google route is incomplete here)

Chris Hunley Most of the roads are two lane, fresh paved roads. A few are in need of some surface work. Here goes: From the intersection of 68 and 125, take 125 east thru Russelville. Keep going till you see the 763 intersection. Follow 763, be careful it needs some paving and gets narrow in spots. Follow till you reach 41, turn right on to 41 south, follow this till you reach Aberdeen. At the stop sign you will be facing 52/68/62. Turn right and follow this route across the bridge in to Maysville Ky. Continue following this route till you see the 62 intersection, 62 goes to the left. Follow this thru the town of Mt. Olivette Ky., keep going till you see the sign for 19. Turn right on to 19. Follow till you see the sign for 165. Turn right on to 165 and follow till you see the sign for 62 again. Turn left on 62. Mount Vernon   Rt. 715

Motorpsycho Jim

From Mt. Vernon, Knox Co. take Rt. 36 east 5 miles to Rt.715. Then take Rt.715 east 12 miles to reconnect to Rt. 36 Coshocton, Co. Rt. 715 is the route that the sportbike riders have been trying to keep a secret. Rt.715 is a nice twistie road with some good straight-a-ways, has good surface, light traffic and only a few connecting roads & drive ways for good scenery a long the way, check out the Mohawk dam and the Walhonding river; for full effect, Rt. 715 should be ridden in both directions.
Nelsonville McArthur OH Rt. 278 south to US 50 then west to McArthur Justice
McArthur Rockbridge North on OH Rt. 93 to OH Rt. 56 then north to OH Rt. 374 then west to OH Rt. 374. Go north on Rt. 374 to Rockbridge. Justice
Marietta 5 miles below Woodfield OH Rt. 26 Mike the Bike Ride the route both ways for MAX enjoyment.

NOTE (as of 8/6/06): Rt. 26 from: Rt. 148 in Belmont county that connects to rt. 26--this road has become extremely DANGEROUS. The road is heavily infested with very slippery tar snakes, and to make it worse, in every inside corner, gravel has been dragged to almost to the middle of the curve from the cages. we jumped off at Woodsfield, and another rider that came up 26 from Marietta advised us that it was the same way. if a rider screams into 1 of these corners, the chances of him going down are very high. there's enough gravel in the curves to damn near kill someone. CB

Zanesville Little Hocking (on the Ohio River) OH Rt. 555 Mike the Bike Watch for gravel in places. A real workout on the arms. NOTE: generally, any 3-digit state route in SE Ohio is a good road.

Update Sept 22, 2002 to SR 555 road conditions: I found a LOT of gravel on 555, and headed South, after 555 meets 78, there is a 2.5 mile stretch of 555 that has been tar & chipped, with the entire surface being loose small gravel. I rode it anyway, and never got above 25 - 30 mph, it was that dangerous. The road cleared up after that and was well worth the time spent--by Mike Kehl (see below)

Junction Rt. 256 and Rt. 664 Junction of Rt. 664 and Hwy 56 OH Rt. 664 Richard Wiseman The start point is about 30 mi. east of Columbus and about 7 mi. south of I70. A really "great loop" is Rt. 664 to US 50 to Rt. 555 out of Athens.
Gallipolis Proctorville OH Rt. 7 Scott Adkins Take OH Rt. 7 south out of Gallipolis, then pick up OH Rt. 218 (heading southwest) to OH Rt. 790 (heading west) to OH Rt. 775 (heading south) to Proctorville. NOTE: Rt. 790 was repaved in 1997. Both 775 and 790 are usually very clean with little 4-wheel traffic. While on Rt. 775 you can hop on County Road 2 between sections of 775--this is a nice clean road with few places to pass (legally)
Rio Grande Cheshire OH Rt. 554 + Rt. 7, + Rt. 588 VFR750F@eurekanet.com Route located in the SE corner of the state. Rt. 554 is approximately 1 mile north of Rio Grande, Nice loop by following Rt. 554 east to Cheshire, then Rt. 7 south to Rt. 588 and Rt. 588 west back to Rio Grande. This road is very clean and free of traffic.
Carrollton Marietta See the Notes Dave Bright Approx. 120 miles. Head south on Rt.9 from Carrollton Then hit Rt 646 west to New Rumley (birthplace of George Custer) Stay on Rt 646 into Scio Then take Rt. 151 towards Jewitt (left turn) Then jump back on Rt 9 south to Cadiz This will intersect with Rt 149 outside of New Athens. Take Rt 149 south to Warnock Jump back onto Rt 9 south. Take Rt. 148 west to Rt 26 south. Stay on Rt 26 to Marietta. To return, try getting on I-77 north out of Marietta Get off on exit #6 Rt 145. Take a right on 145 Then take Rt 800 north At New Philadelphia, take Rt 39 east to Carrollton This is a good ride that will kill about 5-6 hours of time. But it will not disappoint any sportbike enthusiast.
Mariette Jct OH Rt. 7 and OH Rt. 536 OH Rt. 7 Russell Stephan Along the Ohio river one hour northeast up Route 7 from Marietta across the river from New Martinsville, WV. Continue on Ohio SR-536. The yellow and white ODOT sign at the entrance of the road reads, "CAUTION! Steep grades, sharp curves" Careful picking your line. Crack sealer on hot summer days can make things interesting! Most of the time you can pick a line to avoid most of the stuff. This road does not get a lot of traffic. A few dogs may attempt to block your path. Some gravel in a few turns. Driveways and farmyards. Not a friendly road for a "get-off". Fences, light poles, barns, and ditches line the route. Still, lots of fun! Road is only 15 to 20 miles, if that. If you ride it up from the Ohio River, the road intersects with Ohio SR-78.
Zanesville Dresden Highway To Hell, Ohio State Route "666" MOTOR-psycho-Jim VF750C Magna Columbus, OHIO Start at junction SR 60 North & SR 666 North. Go north on SR 666. MILEAGE - app. 20 miles. Two lane road, medium to light traffic in fair condition with some patch work. Some twisties and hills. Runs along Muskingum River. Nice scenery. The SR 666 highway signs make for good photo opportunity if your in to that kind of thing.
Lancaster   Clear Creek Rd. MOTOR-psycho-Jim VF750C Magna Columbus, OHIO From Lancaster OH. take SR.33 southeast about 11 miles. Turn at the Shell station. Clear Creek Rd. is a really nice road. Runs along Clear Creek and has plenty of twisties and beautiful scenery. Hanging rocks and large boulders on both sides of road along the way. Road has light traffic and can be taken at slow to medium speed. Follow to dead end T-corner. A right turn will take you to the Johnson covered bridge, a good place to take a break, has small parking lot and picnic table. A left turn will take you down good road with some nice twisties and hills. Check out Aunt Carries carry out along the way. A good place to get party supplies. Follow to dead end T-corner (SR.374). Turn right on SR.374 and follow the signs will take you to Old Man's Cave state park. Another good place for food and drink and is a biker hang out is Jim-Bo's bar & grill. Located in South Bloomingville OH. about five miles from Old Man's Cave state park.
Lisbon OH (about 30 miles south of Youngstown)  follow SR 164 southwest. Zoar OH SR164 southwest until it ends at SR212.  Make a right and go west on SR212. Steve Grabowski Mileage: approximately 40 miles

Conditions:  This is a very technical road that has lots of elevations changes and various types of turns, tight ones, sweepers and even a few decreasing radius.  It follows along the top of ridges at various points, so be alert for blind corners over the rise. Road conditions are good, traffic is light. You pass through several small towns, a few have gas and other services.  Stop in the historic village of Zoar at the Zoar tavern (on your left after crossing the dam) for lunch, dinner, or a snack.  You can continue west a few miles on SR212 to get to I-77 (plenty of gas and other food there).  This route can also be run in the other direction, a good round trip ride for people in the Youngstown area.

Zanesville   Rt. 555 and Rt. 78 motorpsycho jim take Rt. 555 south to jct. 555 & Rt.78  then, turn right (southwest) on Rt.78. go 1.1 mi. to Morgan co. mile-marker 8. Stop and check out the overlook, you can see for many miles, absolutely beautiful scenery.
Hillsboro   Rt. 73 & Rt. 32 Hamfist Rt. 73 south out of Hillsboro Ohio, about 50 miles east of Cincinnati. This road takes you by Serpent Mound and runs through some beautiful countryside. Everything from hills to ridges to decent corners. This is a fairly lightly traveled road and can be ridden at a good pace. After you come to Rt. 32 go west to return to Cincinnati or east for even more twisties near Athens. Total distance from Cincinnati is about 120 or 130 miles.
Beallsville Lower Salem Rt. 145 Mike Kehl Approximately 40. miles State Route 145 This is a real winner for the EXPERIENCED rider. Lots of hump/turns to low side in if you enter too fast. Very technical, but worth the hard work. Ends a stones throw from SR 26, SR 260, and Marietta OH.
Jct of Rt. 537 and Rt. 26, South of Graysville Rt. 260 in Marr Rt. 537 Mike Kehl About 5 miles--This is just a little connector road up over a mountain between SR 26 and SR 260. The pavement is so-so, but the turns are good, and the view is nice. Of course it is close to a lot of great motorcycling roads.
Rt. 260, South of Marr Rt. 145 Rt. 565 Mike Kehl Around 7 mile--Another short connecting road. This one really surprised me. Superb pavement, and terrific twisties. Traffic was non-existent. I wish it was about 200 miles longer. This is one you should hit if you ever ride in this area.
Rt. 145 Caldwell Rt. 564 Mike Kehl This one is 13.5 miles of nice turns and good surface. A little traffic, but a decent ride.
Malta Rt. 555, 6 miles south of Zanesville Rt. 669 Mike Kehl 13.5 miles--I was a little bored for the first few miles, while this road followed the Muskingum River. Then it made a sharp left up into the hills, and the fun began. Decent pavement and plenty of twisties will keep you interested on the way to SR 555. Very little traffic once you leave the river bank.
Rt. 555, just South of Chesterhill Marietta Rt. 676 Mike Kehl The 27 miles I traveled on 676 seemed to take hours. A real workout, even at a relaxed pace. The surface was great, and traffic was light. More fun than 555 if you're going into Marietta from the West.
Columbus (NE side) Zanesville OH 161, OH 79, OH 541, OH 60 Jason Templeton Take OH 161 east to Newark, just east of Newark take OH 79 North to OH541 and proceed east to OH 60 then south to Zanesville. OH 79 is very fast with excellent road surface conditions.
Calcutta Rogers Sprucevale Rd. +war_emblem_02 Here's a good road Columbiana County Ohio. Sprucevale road in Calcutta to Rogers, Ohio. dist. about 15 miles give or take.  road conditions: excellent to very good.

Starting at Calcutta, head northbound. has long straight-aways until you get close to Cannons Mill Road. at this point, for about 5 miles, be careful. the road changes in elevation, and snaps into at least 3 or 4 hairpin curves. At least 2 of these curves are blind, and are 'cage rated' for 20 mph max. The curves are tricky past Cannon's Mills; they'll go over a slight rise and snap into a very tight turn. Before you go down Sprucevale Hill, there's a scenic stop called Sprucevale look-out. An excellent spot to check out fall foliage. This road does have driveways in spots during the ride. Use extreme caution on this road if wet or at night. I grew up not far from this road and it's a blast to ride a bike on. It doesn't look 'all that great' on Mapquest, but grow'in up in this area, this road can hurt u if u disrespect the curves.

South of Rogers on Rt. 7 (Beaver local public school runs by it. that will be on your left when southbound) Calcutta (at Smiths Ferry Road Bell School Road +war_emblem_02 Bell School Road location: south of Rogers on Rt. 7 (Beaver local public school runs by it and will be on your left when southbound on 7 traffic: light road condition: pretty good total distance: 7 miles end to end. ends in Calcutta at Smiths Ferry Road. Road conditions: DANGER: EXTREME CAUTION ADVISED! local cages know better than to drive at the 'speed of heat'...even teenager's. Not far after the school heading east, the road abruptly drops, hill is a blind drop. If you are hauling ass at this section and hit this drop, you WILL become airborne, and where you land is anyone's guess; you won't make it after landing; it goes into a bit of a curve. Elevation changes for the next 2 miles with blind curves and rises. You are now in the most dangerous section after you pass the road to the left that heads to the trailer park. From here until the next intersection, be extremely careful, especially at night. deer are NOTORIOUS for coming out of nowhere, especially near the grove of pines u are heading towards. driveways are on the moderate side, and u WILL NOT see most of them until point blank range. curves range from sweepers to very tight; cage rated: 20mph.
Calcutta PA State Line Smiths Ferry Road +war_emblem_02 If you want the scenic route from Calcutta to the pa line, at Calcutta, go north on 170. At intersection past the school, turn right on Smiths Ferry Road.  Rt. 170/Smiths Ferry traffic: light to moderate, road condition: excellent road, type: scenic with sweeper curves distance: about 10 miles-ends at the PA line. This sweeps thru the country and is the back way into PA nice sweepers here and has a nice view of PA heading east. The section of Smiths Ferry heading west at the Bell School intersection is a bit twisty; and is a bit hazardous due to the blind curves. Road ends at East Liverpool Road, and if you take a left, you'll head into Calcutta. that road isn't too bad. sweepers, and a bit of a 'walk through the woods.  Traffic: moderate to light. when it gets warmer.
Rt..45. starts in West Point close to the Rt. 11 freeway Wellsville, OH Rt. 45 +war_emblem_02 Road Condition: excellent
Road Type: a mix of both sweepers and sharp twists
Cages: light
Driveway Threat: high
Distance: 9 miles of fun, fun, fun
Ride Recon: if you are on Rt. 11, the exit you want is Rt.. 45/West Point. if coming south from Lisbon, get on Rt. 45. this road is the back way into Wellsville from Lisbon. road has two types of curves: sweepers, and sharpies. advance warning of the curves is signed. speed limit on the road is 45, and at times, is highly advisable to stay there. Elevation changes before, during, and after 95% of these curves. in some curves, you cant see very far into them. you will know when Wellsville is getting close; there is a hill coming up that requires trucks to get into a lower gear. I would advise you to do the same. there will be at least 3 hairpin type curves on this hill. local's call this hill "Wellsville hill'', and its a dangerous hill. this part of the ride would be suicidal to attempt to haul ass on. the curves might have fine gravel on that you will not see until its too late, and if you fail to make the curves, you will be toast. you will feel how steep this hill is in the handlebars for sure. its a very fun road to take a bike on. gives almost like a roller coaster feel with the elevation changes. driveways are high here. some of them are blind. its definitely one for a sport bike.
Middle Beaver Road at Rt. 7 Elkton, OH Middle Beaver Road +war_emblem_02 Road Condition: excellent
Road Type: sweepers
Cages: light
Driveway Threat: HIGH
Distance: about 4 to 5 miles, can continue on if you want to go to Lisbon
Ride Recon: this is a pretty ride through the country; farm country. curves are generally in the sweeper category, with a couple of them that is a bit sharp. In the fall, this can be considered a scenic ride. Traffic is most generally on the light side, but there is also driveways; a couple of them being close to blind if you take this road at high speed. it's one of these kinds of roads where you are itch'in to roll on the gas. I believe the road will be called Rt. 154 when heading east out of Lisbon. when you get to Elkton, the road name changes to middle beaver road, and Rt. 154 will take a left. you want to go straight here if you are coming from Lisbon. in this direction, the end point will be at Rt.. 7.
