Bike Roads
As sport bike roads the ones listed below are rated a 3 or 4 (by me) on a five point scale. Nope, there are no "Deals Gap" roads in Wisconsin but these aren't bad. Visit Wisconsin Sport Riders & Wisconsin Humor

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soldiers Grove | Ferryville | Cty. C | Jeff Trapp | Cty. C from Soldiers Grove to Ferryville is one of the better roads in Wis. It's 19 miles of wonderful curves and beautiful scenery as it flows down this valley to the Mississippi. It seems to have better visibility than most and only one tricky decreasing radius corner, that does seem to throw some folks off. |
| Mount Horeb | South Wayne | Wis 78 to Wis 176 to South Wayne | YTK | |
| Sauk City | Junction Wis 131 | Wis 60 | YTK | |
| Spring Green | Lone Rock | South on Wis 23 to Wis 130 then north to Lone Rock | YTK | |
| Hillsboro | Ontario | Wis 133 | YTK | |
| Junction of Wis 60 & Wis 131 | Ontario | Wis 131 | Brian Kirner | Rockton to Ontario the road is quite rough. Watch for slow moving trailers hauling canoes. The lower section of Wis 131 (Steuben to Junction Wis 60) is one of the better sections in this area. |
| Gays Mills | Junction US 14 | Wis 171 | Brian Kirner | |
| LaFarge | Viroqua | Wis 82 | YTK | |
| Viroqua | Genoa | Wis 56 | Aaron Herlitzke |
Highway 56, out of Genoa, WI, has just been re-paved as of the summer of 2007. It is beautiful!!! I live in La Crosse, and frequently ride this route! |
| Arcadia | Fountain City | Wis 95 | YTK | |
| Mondovi | Alma | Wis 37 | YTK | |
| Mondovi | Czechville | Wis 37 south to Wis 88 to Czechville | YTK | |
| Boaz (Junction of WI 171 & US 14) | Junction Wis 171 & US 35 (at the Mississippi River) | Wis 171 | Brian Kirner | High speed sweepers through hills and valleys. Generally good road surface. Tighter from US 61 to US 35 |
| Junction Wis 27 & Wis 179 (head east) | Steuben | Wis 179 | Brian Kirner | Great twisty road, little traffic, watch for gravel in some corners. |
| Richland Center (head south on US 14 to Wis 58, about 4 miles | LaValle | Wis 58 | Brian Kirner | Watch for gravel in some corners |
| Richland Center (north) | Hillsboro | Wis 80 | Brian Kirner | Watch for gravel in some corners |
| Hillsboro (west) | La Crosse | Wis 33 | Brian Kirner | Road
thru Wildcat Mountain St. Park, many elevation changes
and twisty, watch for gravel.

| Hwy 78 (at exit 108 on I94 by Portage) | Argyle | Wis 78 | Brian Kirner | 60+ miles, watch for gravel in some corners (Ed. Note. Mt. Horeb to Argyle is the best part. Also, stop at the Mustard Museum in Mt. Horeb for something different.) |
| Viroqua (east on Hwy 56 about 4.5 miles to Hwy 82) | Hillsboro | Wis 82 | Brian Kirner | Watch for gravel in some corners |
| Wonewoc | Hillsboro | CR FF | Brian Kirner | A nice little shortcut from a boring stretch of Hwy 33, watch for gravel in some corners. |
| Black Earth | Mt Horeb | CR F | Brian Kirner | On Hwy 78 in downtown Black Earth head NE about 1.1 mile on Madison St (a/k/a CR KP) to CR F, head south to Mt. Horeb. |
| Mazomaine | Blanchardville | CR K | Brian Kirner | Head west out of Mazomaine on US14 about 2.6 miles to CR K, head south to Blanchardville. About 45 miles, watch for gravel in some corners. |
| Appleton | Shawano | Hwy 76 to Hwy 187 to Cty K to Cty CCC to Cty CC to Hwy 22 | Kurt Krupka | Hwy 187 is found in Shiocton, When you get to Cty CCC (while on Cty K), turn left then right on Cty CC to Hwy 22. Go north on 22 |
| Shawano | Junction of Hwy 55 & US 8 | Hwy 47 to Hwy 55 | Kurt Krupka | Hwy 22 comes into Shawano from the south and becomes Hwy 47 in downtown Shawano and continues north. Follow Hwy 47 about 8 miles to Hwy 55. Hwy 55 follows the Wolf river. 55 is a cool road, however; watch for slow moving vehicles, sand, and children playing in the road. |
| Mindoro | Junction Hwy 16 & Hwy 108 | Hwy 108 | John Perkins | There is a 3-5 mile stretch that rivals Deals Gap. Mindoro is east of LaCrosse and north of I-90. |
| Mt. Horeb | Cty JJ & JG & E | John Perkins | There are several good county roads around Mt. Horeb. JJ and JG are north and west and E is south and west of Mt. Horeb. | |
| Wonewoc | Cty I | John Perkins | There is a nice 10-15 mile stretch that is all curves. This is found a couple of miles north of Wonewoc. | |
| Menomonie | Junction Cty J and Hwy 79 | Cty J | Allen Klatt | Cty J is about 2.2 miles north of I-94 at the Menomonie exit. |
| Boyceville | Junction Hwy 79 and Hwy 64 | Hwy 79 | Allen Klatt | The 5 miles closest to Hwy 64 is the best section. NOTE: there are many nice twisty county roads in the area northwest of Menomonie. |
| Potosi | Casseville | Hwy 133 | YT K | Part of the Great River Road. One half of the 16 mile route is fresh new asphalt. |
| Reedsburg | Jct Cty K and US 12 | Cty K | Jeff Nothiger | I stubbled upon K traveling north out of Reedsburg Mmmmh mmmh was that good, after being starved from twisties for the entire year this road was worth the sore butt!!! I found no gravel in the corners, only two cars, and one tractor, and even as the road surface looked old it held my hyper-legal speed cornering just fine under my trusty T595. |
| Jct Cty O & US 10 | Jct Cty O and Hwy 35 | Cty O | Mike Larson | This and the following six listings are many of my favorite roads in the Mississippi River valley |
| Jct Cty A & US 10 | Jct Cty A and Hwy 35 | Cty A | Mike Larson | |
| Jct Cty D & US 10 | Jct Cty D and Hwy 35 | Cty D | Mike Larson | |
| Lund | Porcupine | Cty SS | Mike Larson | |
| Pepin | Jct Cty N and US 10 | Cty N | Mike Larson | |
| Durand | Jct Cty F and Hwy 37 | Cty F | Mike Larson | |
| Jct Cty D & Hwy 25 | Jct Cty D & Hwy 37 | Cty D | Mike Larson | |
| Eau Claire, Jct. of US 12 and State Street | Hwy. 98 | Various county roads--see notes | Big Skid | Start on State
Street south of US 12 and head south to Cty. F, take a right and go to
Cty. HH. take a right and go about a block the Cty. w. Take Cty. W to
to Cty. BB. Take BB all the way to Hwy 121 and then turn left to Cty.
V until you get to Cty. VV which will end up and Hwy. 93. W is
great and BB is great, albeit a little on the rough side, 121, V, VV
are great and it's all new asphalt. At this time, this is probably the
best ride in Wisconsin.
Cty. Q off Hwy. 121 to Rickey's Old Homestead is a good side trip. |
| Westby | Hwy 27, Cty. P, Hwy 82 and Hwy 14/61 | Loop | Jim Parr | Start at the
intersection of state Hwy 14/61 and Hwy 27 in Westby Go .8 miles North
on Hwy 27 to junction County P East on County P (watch for P turnoffs
at miles 7.8 and 17.8) for 27.5 miles. Road is twisty and the surface
is a little bit rough, corners are NOT banked. Now go west on State
Hwy 82 through La Farge to Viroqua. Now, west on Highway 14/61 in
Viroqua back to Westby, 65 total miles. County P will have you
scraping the pegs at less than 40 mph. State Hwy 82 between La Farge
and Viroqua was just resurfaced and if you run it right it is a 5 on a
scale of 5.
NOTE (1/20/02): County P has been under construction. The section west of Hwy 131 has brand new asphalt in the summer of 2001 and the section east of Hwy131 is scheduled for reconstruction summer of 2002. Highway 82 was resurfaced summer of 2000 and 2001. The new asphalt on this loop makes up for stretches of current construction. --Jim Parr |
| Mindoro | Mindoro cut | Big Skid | The Mindoro cut is considered a great road (and it is) so take Hwy. 108 to Hwy. 16 and take east to Hwy. 162. Take Hwy. 162 to Hwy. 14/61 which is close to Cty. P (which is in your road guide) and you'll be close to Wildcat Mtn. which (in my opinion) is even a little bit better than the Mindoro cut. All those roads have been listed in your registry except for hwy. 162 and it is a very good road and connects many other good roads. Try it - you'll like it. | |
| Boscobel | Mount Horeb. | see notes | Rollin Beard | Just try to hit every lettered county road between US 61 to the west, WI 78 to the east, US 18 to the south, and the Wisconsin river to the north. This should keep you busy most of the day, but if you have more time, just start in on some of the other back roads in this area, or some of the roads southwest of Mount Horeb. There isn't a bad one to be found..... Great food and drink at the Grumpy Troll Brew Pub in Mount Horeb makes the day complete. |
| Merrimac | Prairie du Sac. | Hwy 78 | denny69@chorus.net | 8 miles, 14 corners posted at less than 35 MPH, follows Lake Wisconsin. 25 corners in all. Take Hwy 113 from Lodi, (HWY 60 exit I-90-94 west) to the Merrimac Ferry. Get off the ferry, turn left, in about 2 miles you get to the first falling away left turn. Prairie du Sac is 8 miles down the road. The shoulders have been asphalted, and there is occasional slow moving vehicles. You end up back at HWY 60. |
| Star Prairie | Jct. Hwy 65 and US 8 | Hwy 65 | Contact Webmaster I lost your e-mail address! | Take 65 North to highway 8. It's about a 15-25 min. ride depending on how much you push it. Its got nice rolling hills and nice corners. Watch for gravel and obviously police. Drive safe and have a good time. |
| North Lake | Richfield | Hwy-83 to Hwy-167 | Robert Seifert | Also the Hogsback Rd off of Hwy-167 is good. And then I like to stop by Holy Hill to take a view from the top. Click to view image of this route (use Browser BACK BUTTON to return) |
| I-94 and Hwy-F | Cty F (North (and back) | Robert Seifert | Many great sweeping curves in this one with low traffic and some nice views of the river. Click to view image of this route (use Browser BACK BUTTON to return) | |
| Hwy-18 and Hwy-67 | Loop | Take 67 south to CR-ZZ. ZZ North on Waterville rd | Robert Seifert | Lots of tight curves in here. Watch for gravel on Waterville rd. Waterville comes out at Hwy-18 which makes for a nice loop. Click to view image of this route (use Browser BACK BUTTON to return) |
There are almost NO dirt roads in Wisconsin. Many of the county roads in the southwestern part of the State (draw a line from Janesville to Madison to Eau Claire to Hudson) are better than the state and federal highways. Buy a regional Wisconsin map and have a look at the county roads. You'll see lots of curves.
